King John Setting

Shakespeare’s play King John is set in thirteenth-century England during the reign of King John, although in actual history the events depicted occurred a century later. The action takes place in rural England and in Angier, France – in palaces and on battlefields. It is interesting that, looking at the play in the twenty-first century, it’s quite postmodern in that it presents history and what have always seemed its significant events as haphazard mistakes and inconsequential, random actions.
